You deserve clarity.
Sometimes life gets confusing, and at some point, for all of us, things get really tough.

Maybe things have been rough for you lately. Maybe they've been rough for as long as you can remember. Either way, it's important for you to know that you're not alone, and you don't have to go through life that way either.

It's okay to reach out for help. No shame!

Sometimes we need a little guidance, another perspective, or just someone who will not judge to walk alongside us while we work through the things in life that are troubling us. Sometimes we need a little encouragement, a little shaking up of our old thought patterns and stale ways of doing things, and a little kindness. Sometimes we need something new.

Wherever you find yourself at this point in your life, I am here to help!

I know what it's like to struggle, to fight for your life, and to become so desperate that you are catapulted into motion. I believe the only way out is moving through and finding a new way to live in order to heal that which has been shattered.
I believe that all of us are like seeds which have the capacity to grow into something beautiful, so long we are provided the right conditions (good soil, water, the proper nutrients, the right environment, and sunlight). Likewise, you can heal, so long as you have the desire to do so, the right information, the proper tools, the willingness to work hard & make changes, and a little bit of well-informed nurturance & guidance from a person with whom you can feel safe & comfortable.

So, what are you waiting for? The path forward is calling you.

Shall we begin?
A little bit about me ...
My name is Bethany Donovan and I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) located in Norfolk, Virginia; I am also licensed in Washington state (LMHC). I specialize in and am passionately committed to helping teens and adults learn how to overcome past traumas, work through anxiety, and reclaim their lives.

I strive for authenticity, and I believe in being a real person with you, so we can be two real people in a room sharing real moments, where real honesty and real healing can take place. You won't get a blank slate therapist with me! I strive to create the safest environment possible in which you can come as you are and release your burdens without being judged or shamed. As a fellow trauma survivor, I know how crucial it is to feel like you can trust the person you're opening up to about your darkest secrets and deepest pains!

I was educated at Sofia University (formerly the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology) in Palo Alto, CA, where I received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (2014) and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology (2017).

On a personal level, I am deeply connected to nature and love spending time outdoors, be it a short camping trip or hike, or a long backpacking trip through the mountains. Cooking, painting, songwriting, playing my acoustic guitar (not expertly, mind you), and Olympic weightlifting are some of my favorite pastimes! I also am a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (including one tour in Afghanistan), and currently the wife of an active duty service member, so I understand military life and culture on a deeply personal level.
Moreover, I'm a follower of Jesus Christ and believe in the healing power of a strong relationship with God. I've devoted my life to serving Him through this work with dedication to my fellow human beings, and it is my deepest desire to help you draw closer to God if that is also something you want for yourself.
If you've been hurt by religion, I would also be honored to help you process and heal from those wounds.

I am excited to announce that I have just partnered with Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits for potential reimbursement on therapy!

**What are out-of-network benefits?** Here's a breakdown:

✨ If your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, it means they will cover a portion of the cost when you see a therapist who doesn't have a direct contract with your insurance company.

✨ Unlike in-network providers, who bill your insurance company directly, with out-of-network therapists, you typically pay for the session upfront and then submit a claim to your insurance for reimbursement.

✨ Insurance companies often reimburse a percentage of the therapist's fee, usually after you meet an out-of-network deductible. For example, after you meet a $1,000 deductible, your insurance may reimburse 50-80% of the session cost.

✨ Out-of-network benefits give you the flexibility to choose a therapist based on your needs and preferences, not just those in-network.
